Getting good results from Setup Optimiser comes down to how well you can identify and describe what the car is doing on track. Here are some tips to help you get the most out of the process.
Drive a few laps before opening Setup Optimiser
Before you start the feedback process, spend a few laps focusing on how the car feels. Pay attention to specific handling issues rather than chasing lap times. The more clearly you can identify the problem, the better your feedback will be and the more useful the suggested changes.
Focus on one issue at a time
If the car has multiple problems, start with the one that affects you most. For example, if you have understeer on corner entry and oversteer on exit, pick the more serious issue first. Once that is resolved, move on to the next one. Trying to fix everything at once can lead to conflicting changes.
Be specific about where the issue happens
When Setup Optimiser asks you to identify the corner phase, think carefully about exactly when the problem occurs. There is a difference between understeer at corner entry and understeer at mid corner, and the suggested setup changes will be different for each.
Use the severity scale honestly
Rate the severity based on how much the issue actually affects your driving. A mild tendency to oversteer on fast exits is different from the car snapping away on every corner. Accurate severity ratings lead to more appropriate adjustments.
Test for at least three laps after each change
After applying the suggested changes, go back on track and give yourself at least three laps to feel the difference. One lap is not enough to tell whether a change has helped. If the issue persists, return to Setup Optimiser and adjust the severity or try a different approach.
Use lap comparison to verify changes
Pair Setup Optimiser with lap comparison in Race Engineer to see the effect of each change in your telemetry data. This gives you both the feel on track and the data to confirm whether the adjustment worked.
