Our reference lap times are captured by our engineers in controlled conditions using the exact setups available in the GO library. They represent a realistic and achievable benchmark at a high level of consistency, not an absolute theoretical limit.
How reference laps are done
For most sims, reference laps are completed on the qualifying setup at low fuel, at optimal track temperature and rubber conditions. For iRacing, reference laps are done in race conditions. The specific conditions used for each sim are detailed in the following articles:
- What Conditions Are Our ACC Setups Created In?
- What Conditions Are Our LMU Setups Created In?
- What Conditions Are Our AMS2 Setups Created In?
- What Conditions Are Our AC Setups Created In?
- What Conditions Are Our iRacing Setups and Reference Laps Done In?
We do not cherry-pick the fastest outlier from hundreds of attempts. The reference lap reflects consistent, repeatable performance with the setup.
How to use the reference time
Use the reference time as a target and a calibration point, not a ceiling. If you are within 1 to 2 percent of the reference on your first few sessions with a new setup, it is working as intended. A larger gap typically points to a driving technique or sim configuration difference rather than a problem with the setup itself.
iRacing
iRacing reference laps are completed on the week the setup is released. Track rubber levels change significantly across the week, so your times may vary from early to late in the week. This is normal.
ACC
ACC reference laps are completed at the conditions listed in the ACC setup conditions article. GT3 and GT4 reference times are handled separately.
LMU
LMU reference laps account for the Balance of Performance in effect at release. If the BOP changes significantly, a setup and reference lap update will follow.
AMS2 and AC
Reference laps are completed at standard optimal conditions for each car and track combination, as listed in the relevant conditions article.
